Bitaxe Gamma – Complete Setup Guide

If you’ve just purchased a Bitaxe Gamma from Bitaxe UK – congratulations! You’re one step closer to efficient, open-source Bitcoin mining. This guide will walk you through everything you need to get your Bitaxe Gamma up and running quickly and smoothly.

Whether you're new to mining or upgrading your setup, this setup guide is tailored for Bitaxe Gamma users in the UK and beyond.

What You’ll Need

Before starting the setup process, make sure you have the following:

  • Your Bitaxe Gamma
  • A reliable power supply (5V DC only)
  • A 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network
  • Access to a Bitcoin mining pool (we recommend Public Pool)
  • A device with a web browser for configuration (laptop, desktop, or smartphone)

Step 1: Attach the Screen

Before powering the unit, attach the detachable screen using the provided fixtures. This ensures safe transport and full visibility during setup.

Step 2: Power Up the Miner

Plug the Bitaxe Gamma into a suitable power outlet using a 5V power adapter only.

The device is globally compatible with standard voltage inputs.

Once powered, the screen will display a Wi-Fi network name such as “Bitaxe_XXXX”, where XXXX is unique to your unit.

Step 3: Connect to the Miner via Wi-Fi

  • On your phone or computer, open your Wi-Fi settings.
  • Connect to the “Bitaxe_XXXX” network.
  • If prompted about continuing without internet, select YES.

Step 4: Access AxeOS Interface

Enter the IP address shown on the Bitaxe screen into your browser’s address bar.

Step 5: Connect the Miner to Your Home Wi-Fi

In the Settings tab of AxeOS:

  • Wi-Fi ID: Enter your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi SSID (network name).
  • Wi-Fi Password: Carefully enter your Wi-Fi password.
  • Click Connect. The device will reboot and join your home network.

Tip: If you lose the local IP address after switching networks, check your router’s admin page or use a network scanner app to locate the Bitaxe.

Step 6: Configure Mining Pool Settings

While still in the Settings tab of AxeOS:

  • Stratum URL: Enter the mining pool URL (do not include stratum+tcp://).
  • Stratum Port: Input the port number provided by your mining pool.
  • Stratum User: Enter your Bitcoin wallet address, followed by a full stop . and your worker name (e.g. bc1q...xyz.worker1)
  • Stratum Password: If your mining pool requires a password, enter it here. Otherwise, leave this blank or use x if needed.
  • Once all fields are correctly filled in, click Save. Your Bitaxe miner will now connect to the pool and begin mining.

Example for Public Pool:

  • Stratum URL: public-pool.io
  • Stratum Port: 21496
  • Stratum User: <your BTC address>.<worker name>
  • Stratum Password: <leave blank>

Firmware Upgrade (Optional but Recommended)

To update your Bitaxe Gamma firmware:

  • Visit: ESP-Miner GitHub Releases
  • Download the latest www.bin and esp-miner.bin files.
  • In AxeOS, upload the files via the firmware update section.

Maintenance & Best Practices

  • Stable Wi-Fi: A strong, consistent Wi-Fi signal is key to uninterrupted mining.
  • Clean Environment: Dust and debris can restrict airflow and reduce cooling efficiency.
  • Placement: Avoid enclosed areas—use a well-ventilated space for ongoing operation.
