Updating Firmware - Complete Guide
Updating your Bitaxe ensures it runs at peak performance with the latest security patches and features. Thanks to the active open-source community, firmware updates are released regularly to improve efficiency, add support for new models, and resolve known issues.
This step-by-step guide will walk you through a simple method for upgrading your firmware using the Bitaxe Webflasher via a USB connection.
Note: We highly recommend using the Bitaxe Web Flasher to update your firmware. It’s the most straightforward and reliable option—no software installation required.
What You’ll Need
- A computer (Windows, macOS or Linux) with an available USB port
- A USB-C cable capable of data transfer (USB-C to USB-C can cause errors, so use USB-A to USB-C)
- A suitable 5V DC power supply
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Connect your Bitaxe to power using its supplied PSU (5V DC ONLY).
- Plug the USB-A cable into your computer.
- Open your browser and go to: bitaxeorg.github.io/bitaxe-web-flasher
- Plug the USB-C cable into the Bitaxe.
- Click Connect in the Web Flasher interface, select your device, and allow permission for your browser to access the device.
- Once connected, select your device model (e.g. Bitaxe Gamma).
- Select the correct board version (e.g. 601).
- Select the firmware version you'd like to install. We recommend the latest version for the newest features and bug fixes.
- Choose whether to keep your configuration:
- Tick Keep Configuration to retain your current settings.
- Untick it to perform a clean flash (this will reset your Bitaxe).
- Double-check your selections, then click Start Flashing.
- The flashing process will begin. Do not unplug your device during this step.
- After the flash is complete, click Disconnect in the Web Flasher to safely close the session.
- The Bitaxe will perform a self-test. Once completed and passed, it will prompt you to press the Reset button on the physical device.
- Please click the reset button only when instructed. After doing so, the Bitaxe will reset, and the firmware update will be complete.
